Nicaragua Day Three

Today was Sunday so we were able to start the day with Pastor Silvio and his congregation in the village of Quince de Julio. The children all sit in front together:
Pastor Silvio and his seminary student, Jerónimo (who preached today's sermon), praying together before the service:
After the service Pastor Silvio (on the left) and Jerónimo (on the right) let me take their picture. They had lots of questions about ministry in the U.S. and told us about the churches in Nicaragua. We learned that when Jerónimo graduates in January, he will take one of Pastor Silvio's four churches and grow that one church into more.
The praise team did more singing after church. They let me take a video, but I can't seem to load that here.
After service, Brian and Sam climbed on top of the school to inspect the cracked skylight that needs replacing this week:
Today after lunch was our opportunity to do some sightseeing in the Chinandega province. We went to the town of Corinto to a beachfront restaurant called El Espigón (Breakwater):

Dave ordered the fish for lunch and was served the whole thing:
Here's the whole team on the beach after lunch. Some of us are wetter than we planned due to a sneaker wave or two.
And here's the team (minus Sam who took the picture) with our driver, Ervin. Please keep Ervin and his family in prayer as his two daughters have been hospitalized with high fevers.
After a brief stop in downtown Chinandega and another supermarket stop (we found coffee-flavored candy this time!), it was time to head back to the hotel for a light sampler dinner -- the team shared two of these appetizer platters:
We wrapped up our day with devotions and more planning for tomorrow's project. Please pray that God would bring those whose lives would be touched, that they will be open to our teaching, and that lives will be changed over these next four days of installing water purifiers, teaching VBS, and teaching the adults about water hygiene. One of the bottled water brands we've been drinking a lot of here is Fuente Pura which means "pure fountain (or source)". Tomorrow's VBS begins with the story of the woman at the well from John 4 and as the children learn about Jesus as Living Water, we pray that they would come to know Him as the only Pure Source.

  1. God's blessings as you start your week. I'm glad that Dave got to eat that fish and not me. :0)

    1. May God continue to bless your work there! We are praying for sustained health. God is certainly caring for your team as you travel, and He is using you to care for others. Lisa, have you been running in Nicaragua? We were jealous of that fish! It is by far the best fish we've ever had! God bless you all!
